IDA by Paweł Pawlikowski

This movie is currently shortlisted for 87th Academy Award's best foreign language film and I genuinely hope it makes into the top 5 nominees. The movie is less than 80 minutes but the visuals along with the compelling story really makes it great. Aside from the melancholic plot line of a daughter trying to find her parents under the worst circumstances, this movie actually serves as a genuine coming of age for the protagonist and you can just feel it happening over the time span of the whole movie. I have to say that I had to pause the movie almost every other minute to take a screenshot of the respective scene because Director Pawel Pawlikowski indeed got an eye for breathtaking visuals. The music was stunning and went really well with the movie as it kept a light atmosphere thus complimenting the otherwise heart-wrenching aftermath of the Holocaust in Poland, a major backdrop for the movie.

Here are some of my favorite scenes from the movie:

One of the best from 2014. One of the best, ever.
